THE STORY BEHIND THE PRODUCT

Artisan Organization: Les Ateliers Serghini

Country: Morocco

Hamid (55 years old) Father of two boys and a daughter and a native of the city of Safi, Hamid climbed all the rungs to become a renowned ceramist in Morocco. He began as a student apprentice with the master Mohamed Serghini (1907-1985) who transmitted to him the basics of the job in the most pure Arab and Berber traditions.

He was then promoted head of workshops with master Moulay Ahmed Serghini, during which period Hamid nourished with his innovative style the art of ceramics in the ancestral city of Safi.

The career of Hamid is a real success story of a son of the city who dedicated his entire life to learn about the ceramic art secrets and to train thousands of young ceramists. His story is a good example of how traditional art can contribute to human development in African countries.
